Teamwork

We all know that sports are supposed to teach our children teamwork, but with all the parental involvement, and the coaches/parents favoritism towards their children, the concept of teamwork somehow gets lost in the translation. Don't get me wrong, I believe that sports is necessary for our children. It teaches them life lessons and to a lesser degree, yes, teamwork. But, the horror stories that I have heard from parents about their children and the various leagues that they play in are incredible. I have seen some firsthand. There is an organization that still teaches kids about teamwork, and that organization is the Scouts(as in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts). I was a Scout and some of my friends were also. They teach you about working together for the good of the Patrol or the Den or the Troop. There are no stars. They teach kids about being prepared and to help others. I think every kid should be a Scout. I still believe that sports are important to our children, but a little bit of Scouting will round them out.
