Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all. It's nice to spend time with family and friends. To talk politics and sports, current events,  about relatives; to sit down and break bread, to stuff ourselves and come back for more, to break chops and have them broken. I had a very good Thanksgiving and I'm going to give thanks to my family, my extended family and my friends. I only wish that my dog Buddy Boy could have been there too. Usually, I hate the Holidays. But, I was determined to enjoy myself and I did. For me, family is the only thing for better or worse. I'm really looking forward to Christmas( and yes,I'm going to display a Nativity Scene and anything else I feel like displaying).

Nobel Peace Prize

I must have missed something. When did the Nobel Peace Prize award someone for talking about what they wanted to do? I was inder the impression that you needed to do something in order to be considered for the Prize. When did giving speeches become a category? I swear, there has never been a person that has done less and be praised so much as President Obama. And,what's going on with the Nobel Prize comittee. There is no way President Obama has done anything to receive this award. I nominate Joe the plumber for the award next year.

Teamwork

We all know that sports are supposed to teach our children teamwork, but with all the parental involvement, and the coaches/parents favoritism towards their children, the concept of teamwork somehow gets lost in the translation. Don't get me wrong, I believe that sports is necessary for our children. It teaches them life lessons and to a lesser degree, yes, teamwork. But, the horror stories that I have heard from parents about their children and the various leagues that they play in are incredible. I have seen some firsthand. There is an organization that still teaches kids about teamwork, and that organization is the Scouts(as in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts). I was a Scout and some of my friends were also. They teach you about working together for the good of the Patrol or the Den or the Troop. There are no stars. They teach kids about being prepared and to help others. I think every kid should be a Scout. I still believe that sports are important to our children, but a little bit of Scouting will round them out.

Who's Truly Unamerican?

America is a nation of hypocrites. It was certainly American to blame, blast, heckle and even throw shoes at George W. Bush. However, if we criticize President Obama, we are now Un-American. Are the Democrats and Liberals in this Country crazy? The disrespect shown to George W. Bush was truly Un-American. I believe that any person who blindly follows their party line is Un-American. We need to work together as Americans to solve our problems, not as Republicans, not as Liberals, not as Democrats. Our elected officials need to drop their party affiliations and lead us forward as Americans. Then, maybe, we can start to become the nation we should be.
